Jan Michalski Foundation Writing Residencies
Our partner organization, Fondation Jan Michalski, is pleased to inform you that applications for the residences 2024 are open from 24 May 9 a.m (GMT +2) until 26 August 2024, 6 p.m (GMT +2). The selected candidates will be welcomed between February and December of 2025.
Priority is given to writers and translators, but the residencies are open to all types of writing, including other disciplines in which writing is at the heart of the project. A certain percentage of the residencies will be dedicated to nature writing, a form of fiction or creative non-fiction that raises awareness of nature, prepares for a sustainable future, and helps to better understand socio-environmental interconnections and the impact of human actions on nature. Residencies can be granted for individual projects or collaborations.
The Foundation covers residents’ travel costs to and from home and grants a weekly stipend of CHF 400. Residents can also participate in cultural activities organized by the Foundation.

Surrounded by nature in the foothills of the Jura mountains in Switzerland, the Jan Michalski Foundation for Writing and Literature was created by Vera Michalski in memory of her husband in order to perpetuate their shared commitment to those who devote themselves to the written word.
Its mission is to foster literary creation and encourage the practice of reading through a range of initiatives. These include a vast public library with 80,000 works of literature, themed expositions, cultural events, an annual prize in world literature, financial support for literary projects and a writers’ residency program. Seven distinctive housing units, called “treehouses,” host emerging and established authors from all over the world for residency periods ranging from two weeks to three months.
The Jan Michalski Foundation offers a setting for unique encounters, a space where writers, artists, and the public come together.
