Looren Day 2026

Translation House Looren, Wernetshausen

26 September is the date to remember – we’re delighted to invite you to our open day!

The blue sky is the same, boundless.

Usama Al Shahmani is known in literary circles as a prose writer who writes in German. Far from everyone is aware, however, that he also writes poetry in Arabic and works as a literary translator (of authors including Jürgen Habermas and Friedrich Schleiermacher). At Loorentag, he will present a selection of his Arabic poems and discuss the process he goes through when translating his own poetry into German. The musician and composer Saif Al-Khayyat will provide musical accompaniment on the oud for the Arabic-German reading, whilst Zorka Ciklaminy will moderate the discussion.

Programme:

3.00 pm: Doors open
4.00–5.15 pm: Event
from 5.30 pm: Afghan buffet

The event is part of the "Texts Without Borders" series and is free of charge. You will receive a detailed invitation with a registration link in early August.
