European Conference on Literary Translation
CEATL (European Council of Literary Translators' Associations) is organising a European Conference on Literary Translation as part of the programme of Strasbourg UNESCO World Book Capital 2024.
This unprecedented event, which will be held at the European Parliament and in Strasbourg City from 2nd to 4th October 2024, will bring together literary translation stakeholders for three days of discussions on the issues surrounding the circulation of literary works in Europe.
The programme, featuring 65 speakers from 30 countries, 5 round tables, 7 workshops and more, will provide an opportunity to strengthen existing networks, exchange views and best practices, and examine the challenges facing the sector, including linguistic and editorial diversity, artificial intelligence, and freedom of expression.
Registration is now open to attend the conference either in person (at the 350-seat auditorium of the European Parliament) or online. Simultaneous translation will be provided in French, English and German.
The Strasbourg Conference is widely supported by public institutions (European Parliament, European Commission, French Ministry of Culture, City of Strasbourg), as well as by stakeholders in the European book trade and beyond (European and International associations of translators, writers, publishers and booksellers; literary and cultural organisations), all of which are committed to supporting and promoting literary translation.
