Poetry of the plants: writing and paper embroidery workshop with Yana Lema Otavalo

La Cápsula, Anwandstrasse 9, Zürich

In Peguche, a Kichwa community in the Ecuadorian Otavalo Canton, textile arts are a central part of life, sometimes used as a form of writing. The poet, translator, artist and activist Yana Lema Otavalo, who is currently a resident at Translator House Looren, believes that these forms of writing go beyond words. They allow us to enter a dialogue with other kingdoms of nature and with the ancestral, spiritual world.

How do plants write? What is their poetry? Explore these questions during this plant poetry and paper embroidery workshop.

6pm-8pm: Workshop

8pm: finissage of the exhibition “El ombligo del mundo” (“The belly button of the world”) and apéro
