Miracles at the Touch of a Button: Literary Translation and AI
What does artificial intelligence have to match up to our creativity? And what do we have to match up to artificial intelligence? As part of a study carried out in 2023 conjunction with ATLF and VDÜ (the French and German literary translators associations), we would like to examine the specific experiences of literary translators to establish the current position of post-editing in the publishing industry and the significance of these instruments for literary translation in Switzerland. The findings presented during the symposium, accompanied by theoretical and practical considerations, aim to make it easier for literary translators to find their way in a constantly changing professional landscape.
The symposium is organised by Authors in Switzerland A*dS in conjunction with Translation House Looren, the Swiss arts council Pro Helvetia, the Centre de traduction littéraire de Lausanne (CTL) and the Zug translators association.
The public event Handpicked Poetry takes place at 6.30 pm. The literary initiative handverlesen translates, presents and disseminates literature in German Sign Language, giving literature greater freedom of movement. Through their work with both spoken and sign language, they create a dialogue between the hearing literary world and d/Deaf artists, making signed poetry an integral part of literature.
