Looren Day: Translating Ulysses Documentary
21 September is the date to remember – we’re delighted to invite you to our open day!
Look forward to the touchingly poetic documentary Translating Ulysses (dir: Aylin Kuryel and Firat Yücel) on the work of the Kurdish translator Kawa Nemir. The film shows the complex process of translating James Joyce’s linguistic masterpiece Ulysses, from the very first pages to the finished book, into Kurmanji – a language still banned in present-day Turkey.
The film screening will be followed by a Q&A with Ergin Opengin, editor of the Kurdish Ulysses translation. The poet and translator Rafaël Newman will chair the conversation.
Programme:
14.00: Doors
15.00-16.30: Film screening Translating Ulysses
16.30-17.00: Discussion (in English) with Ergin Opengin, editor of the Kurdish translation of Ulysses. Moderation: Rafaël Newman
From 17.15: Afghan buffet
The event is free of charge. The number of participants is limited.
