Ghazal Mosadeq: Between Multilingual Poetry and Experimental Translation
Lecture by Ghazal Mosadeq and conversation with her Chilean translator, Carlos Soto Román. Moderator: Rodrigo Olavarría
Ghazal Mosadeq is a poet and translator based in UK, Canada and Iran. She is the founder of Pamenar Press, an independent press interested in translational and multilingual experiments. She also co-founded “Zeer Pel-leh” a short-lived hub for experimental visual, textual and performative practices in Tehran. Her writings have been published by Tamaas Foundation, Poetry Wales, Gammm Press, Plumwood Mountain, ‘WD40, Revista de poesía, ensayo y crítica’, Senna Hoy, Oversound, Changes Review and Blackbox Manifold, among others.
Ghazal Mosadeq writes between and among genres and disciplines with a close attention to translingual, visual and sonic performativity of the language. She intertwines languages, linguistic systems and registers and uses different translative methods, mostly toward creating dis-ease. Her multilingual pieces are often playful and humorous, and are set to disrupt and ridicule the notion of the neoliberal multicultural and multilingual.
At the Looren América Latina Virtual Residency the Chilean poet and translator Carlos Soto Román is translating Mosadeq's poetry collection درمان دریازدگی Supernatural Remedies for Fatal Seasickness, highly Indivisible but nevertheless in Nineteen Sections (2018).
