Suvddulam Batsaikhan aus Ulaanbaatar wurde für ihre Übersetzung von James Joyces A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man ins Mongolische mit dem «Joyce Scholarship and Looren Residency 2024» ausgezeichnet. Sie ist Herausgeberin und Übersetzerin aus dem Englischen und Russischen und hat u.a. Milan Kundera, Orhan Pamuk, Elif Shafak übersetzt. Sie wird während ihres Aufenthaltes im Übersetzerhaus Looren im Herbst Gelegenheit haben, Recherchen in der Zürcher James Joyce Stiftung zu tätigen um die mongolischen Übertragung des Textes zu verfeinern.

Der iranische Übersetzer und Schriftsteller Mohammad Ramazanee aus der Provinz West-Aserbaidschan im Iran übersetzt aus dem Englischen ins Kurdische und ins Persische. Zudem arbeitet er als Englischlehrer und Übersetzer von Dokumentarfilmen. Er hat u.a. William Faulkners The Sound and the Fury und James Joyces The Dead ins Kurdische und eine Sammlung irischer Kurzgeschichten ins Persische übersetzt. Im Übersetzerhaus Looren wird er an der Übersetzung von James Joyces Ulysses ins Kurdische arbeiten.

Vitor Alevato do Amaral from Rio de Janeiro is a lecturer on anglophone literature, translates predominantly texts by and on James Joyce, and is the co-head of the ‘Joyce Studies in Brazil’ research group. In February 2020 he worked at Translation House Looren on the translation of James Joyce’s juvenilia and occasional poems into Portuguese.

Akram Pedramnia is a Canadian writer and translator from Iran. Her translations into Persian include Vladimir Nabokov’s Lolita, along with works by F. Scott Fitzgerald, Colm Tóibín, Noam Chomsky and Naomi Klein, and she has published four novels of her own. During her stay at Translation House Looren in May 2021, she will be working on translating James Joyce’s Ulysses into Persian.

Rodrigo Olavarría from Chile is a novelist, poet and translator, of writers including Allen Ginsberg, Herman Melville and William Burroughs. At Translation House Looren he will be working on a new translation of James Joyce’s A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man specifically geared towards Latin-American Spanish.

Nilüfer İlkaya is a freelance writer and literary translator from English to Turkish. Her Turkish translations include poems and short stories by Steven Millhauser as well as Mark Mazower’s book, No Enchanted Palace: The End of the Empire and Ideological Origins of the United Nations. She received a translation grant from Literature Ireland for her 2016 translation of James Joyce’s Dubliners. She will be working from 3 May to 3 June 2018 at Translation House Looren and at Zurich’s James Joyce Foundation on a new translation of A Portrait of the Artist As a Young Man.

Rareş Moldovan from Romania is Associate Professor of English literature and Irish Studies at the Babeş-Bolyai University in Cluj. He has translated into Romanian, amongst others, works by William Shakespeare, Robert Browning, Michael Cunningham, Thomas Pynchon und Hans Vahinger.
