Schriftzüge Residency Grants 2018

Rauza Mussabayeva from Kazakhstan is a freelance translator from German and Russian into Kazakh. She largely translates the work of Russian Germans, as well as children’s and YA books by Hanna Johansen, Emil Zopfi, Bettina Obrecht and Anne Möller. At Translation House Looren she will be working from 21 November to 19 December 2018 on her translation of the novel Die Venus im Fenster by Eleonore Hummel. In 2015, Hummel’s first novel Die Fische von Berlin appeared in Almaty in Mussabayeva’s Kazakh translation. 

Furqat Soatov, Olmos, Usbekistan

Furquat Soatov from Uzbekistan is an interpreter and freelance translator and has translated books including Das grosse Leuchten by Andreas Stichmann and Fame by Daniel Kehlmann into Uzbek. At Translation House Looren he will be working from 18 October to 11 November 2018 on his translation of Kolja Mensing’s Die Legenden der Väter.

Sergej Moreino, Riga/Moscow

Sergej Moreino is a freelance writer and poetry translator from German, Latvian and Polish. His Russian translations of poetry include work by Czesław Miłosz, Juris Kunnoss, Klaus Merz and Jürg Halter. From 3 to 30 March 2018 he will be working at Translation House Looren on a joint collection of poems by Ulf Stolterfoht and Eberhard Häfner.

Shaxnoza Kuvanova, Qarshi

German > Uzbek

Shaxnoza Kuvanova from Uzbekistan translates from German to Uzbek and has translated works by Gottfried Keller, Heinrich Mann and Franz Kafka into Uzbek as well as children’s literature. From 1 to 30 April 2018 she will be working at Translation House Looren on her translation of Friedrich Dürrenmatt’s novella Die Panne.

Khafiza Kuchkarova, Tashkent

As a translator from German to Uzbek Khafiza Kuchkarova has published Uzbek translations of writer such as Jenny Erpenbeck, Franz Hohler, Dorothee Elmiger and Elke Heidenreich. From 2 to 30 August 2018 she will be working at Translation House Looren on Zora del Buono’s novella Gotthard.

Viacheslav Kuprianov, Moscow

Schriftzüge Residency Grants 2018

German > Russian

Viacheslav Kuprianov writes poems and novellas, and is a freelance translator from German to Russian. Among his translations are prose by Franz Hohler and poetry by Friedrich Hölderlin and Rainer Maria Rilke. His anthology of German-language poetry in Russian won the Bunin Prize in 2010. In February 2018, Viacheslav Kuprianov was awarded the Union of Russian Writers  translation prize for his translation of Michael Krüger’s Unter freiem Himmel. His book of poems Ein Denkmal für den unbekannten Feigling will be published in an extended version by Pop-Verlag, Ludwigsburg, this year. From 26 February to 26 March 2018 he will be at Translation House Looren, working on his translation of Hans Magnus Enzensberger’s Gedicht für die Gedichte nicht lesen.
